What Performance Max means

Performance Max (PMax) is Google's fully automated campaign type that delivers ads across Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Discover, and Maps using machine learning for targeting, bidding, creative assembly, and placement. From a compliance perspective, Performance Max presents unique challenges: advertisers provide creative assets (images, videos, headlines, descriptions) and the AI combines and distributes them automatically, reducing direct control over final ad appearance and placement. This automation can create compliance risks for regulated industries where specific claims, disclaimers, or targeting restrictions must be maintained. Brand safety controls are limited compared to individual campaign types. Advertisers should carefully review asset group compositions, set appropriate audience signals, and monitor automated creative combinations for policy compliance.
