Free Snapchat Ads Audit

Check your Snapchat ad creatives and copy against platform policies, safe zone specs, and content restrictions — before they get rejected.

What This Audit Covers

Snapchat has specific ad requirements that differ significantly from Meta and TikTok. A campaign that passes review on one platform can be immediately rejected on Snapchat due to its strict content policies around young audiences, creative safe zones, and category-specific restrictions. Use our platform comparison to see the differences at a glance. This audit checks all three layers.

Layer 1: Creative Safe Zone Compliance

Snapchat ads run in full-screen 9:16 format (1080 × 1920 pixels). The platform's UI — including swipe-up prompts, username overlays, and interactive elements — occupies specific zones at the top and bottom of the screen. Content outside the safe zone will be obscured.

Snapchat Safe Zone Requirements

  • Top 150 pixels: Keep all logos, key text, and primary visuals clear of this area — Snapchat's UI overlaps here
  • Bottom 150 pixels: CTAs, disclaimers, and brand names must stay above this boundary
  • Central safe area: All critical content should be concentrated in the middle 60% of the vertical frame
  • Single consistent safe zone: Unlike Meta, Snapchat uses one safe zone template across all ad formats

📐 Quick Safe Zone Reference (1080 × 1920px canvas) Safe content area: Pixels 150 to 1770 vertically (1620px of safe space). Avoid: Top 150px and bottom 150px. Recommended text placement: Pixels 300–1600 for maximum visibility across all Snapchat formats.

Layer 2: Content Policy Compliance

Snapchat's audience skews younger than other platforms — 51.1% of US Snapchat users are Gen Z. As a result, Snapchat enforces strict content policies for all advertisers, with additional restrictions for products in certain categories.

Prohibited Content Categories (All Advertisers)

  • Sexual content, nudity, or suggestive imagery — zero tolerance, immediate rejection
  • Violent content, graphic imagery, or content promoting self-harm
  • Illegal products or services, including unauthorized pharmaceuticals
  • Misleading claims, false testimonials, or deceptive pricing
  • Content that demeans or targets individuals based on protected characteristics

Restricted Categories (Require Pre-Approval or Age Targeting)

  • Alcohol advertising — must use age-targeting minimum 18+ (21+ in US), no lifestyle association with minors
  • Gambling and betting — requires licensing documentation and jurisdiction-specific approval
  • Healthcare and pharmaceutical products — requires compliance with local medical advertising law (see healthcare compliance)
  • Financial services — income claims must be substantiated, risk disclosures required (see financial services compliance)
  • Weight loss and body transformation — before/after imagery prohibited under body image policy

Layer 3: Ad Format & Technical Requirements

Single Image or Video Ad

  • Resolution: 1080 × 1920px (9:16 aspect ratio) — non-negotiable
  • Video length: 3 seconds minimum, up to 3 minutes (30 minutes technically allowed, 3–10 seconds recommended)
  • File format: .mp4 or .mov (H.264 encoded) for video; .jpg or .png for images
  • File size: Maximum 1 GB for video, 5 MB for static images
  • Audio: Required for video ads — 2 channels, balanced, targeting -16 LUFS
  • Brand name: Up to 32 characters; headline: up to 34 characters

Story Ads

  • 3 to 20 individual snaps per story placement
  • Each snap: same 9:16, 1080 × 1920px specs apply
  • Tile headline: Up to 55 characters for the discovery feed entry

Commercials (Unskippable)

  • Standard: 3–6 seconds, completely unskippable
  • Extended: 7–180 seconds, first 6 seconds unskippable
  • Premium inventory only — requires Snapchat direct rep or managed account

Common Reasons Snapchat Ads Get Rejected

  • Safe zone violations — key text or logo inside top/bottom 150px
  • Missing or insufficient brand disclosure on promotional content
  • Before/after imagery in weight loss, fitness, or cosmetic contexts
  • Claims not supported by evidence ("#1 product," "guaranteed results") — run your copy through our Keyword Risk Checker to catch these
  • Targeting settings not configured for age-restricted categories
  • Aspect ratio mismatch — submitting 1:1 or 16:9 creatives for full-screen placements
  • Audio imbalance or missing audio track on video submissions
