Audience Insights
Platform tools providing demographic, behavioral, and interest data about an advertiser's audience segments.
What Audience Insights means
Audience insights tools provide advertisers with aggregated data about their target audiences, custom audiences, and page/profile followers — including demographics, interests, behaviors, and geographic distribution. Meta's Audience Insights, Google's Audience Manager, and similar platform tools help advertisers understand their audiences and refine targeting. From a compliance perspective, audience insights rely on aggregated data rather than individual-level information, making them more privacy-friendly than granular user tracking. However, the underlying data collection that powers audience insights must comply with privacy regulations. Platforms have reduced the granularity of audience insights in response to privacy concerns — Meta removed some detailed interest categories, and audience size minimums prevent identification of small groups. Audience insights are valuable for compliance planning — understanding audience demographics helps ensure targeting aligns with policy requirements for age-restricted or region-specific products.
