Ad Library
A public transparency tool provided by platforms that allows anyone to view active and past ads run by advertisers.
What Ad Library means
Ad libraries (also called ad transparency tools) are publicly accessible databases where platforms store information about ads running on their networks. Meta's Ad Library, Google's Ads Transparency Center, and TikTok's Commercial Content Library are the most prominent examples. These tools were created in response to regulatory pressure around political advertising and misinformation. They allow regulators, researchers, competitors, and consumers to view ad creatives, spending ranges, targeting information, and run dates. For compliance professionals, ad libraries serve as valuable research tools for competitive analysis and ensuring industry-wide compliance standards.
