UAE Media Council
Federal UAE authority regulating media licensing, including the influencer-licensing framework that replaced the National Media Council (NMC) after its dissolution in 2020.
What UAE Media Council means
The UAE Media Council is the United Arab Emirates' federal media regulatory body, established to oversee media activity, content standards, and commercial-influencer licensing across all seven emirates. It replaced the National Media Council (NMC), which was dissolved in 2020. Under the UAE Media Council framework, media entities, advertising agencies, and professional influencers conducting commercial activities on social media must obtain a Media Council licence. Licence categories vary by activity scope and scale, and content must comply with UAE federal media regulations and emirate-level cultural standards. UAE Media Council licensing remains one of the few regimes globally that requires individual influencers to hold a government licence to monetise content.
