What CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) means

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA, P.L. 110-314) is a US federal law administered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). For children's products (intended primarily for under-12 audiences), CPSIA requires: total lead content limits (currently 100 ppm), phthalate limits in toys and child-care articles, third-party laboratory testing, a Children's Product Certificate, and permanent tracking labels with manufacturer/source/date information. CPSIA also created publicly searchable safety databases (saferproducts.gov) and gave CPSC authority to issue mandatory recalls. Marketing of children's products in the US must reflect compliant testing and labeling — non-compliant products cannot be promoted, and ad imagery must reflect current product specifications.
