Google has added a warranty [warranty] attribute to its Merchant Center product data specification for merchants serving Shopping ads and free listings in Canada, according to its official Merchant Center Changelog as tracked by AuditSocials.
The changelog entry states that under Québec's Bill 29, merchants selling certain new electronics and household appliances to consumers in Québec must display a mandatory legal warranty duration near the product price, including on digital ads.
Merchants can start submitting warranty information in their product data source now. Display of this information on ads and free listings will begin later this year, according to the entry.
AuditSocials detected the change on October 22, 2026, and lists an effective date of October 1, 2026. It rated the change's severity as medium. The change affects e-commerce and direct-to-consumer sellers as well as marketing and advertising teams running paid ads and shop listings in Canada.
Merchants should add the warranty [warranty] attribute to product data sources for new electronics and household appliances sold to consumers in Québec, and submit the legal warranty duration for in-scope products before display on ads and free listings begins later this year.
